Anyone starting a fresh league? I'd be heavily interested with a few other dedicated GMs from a current league we are in.
IF this happens, please let me know!

I've kicked around starting a new league as I've run several over the last couple of decades, but it's a matter of finding enough active people to make it worthwhile. That's been the major issue for getting a lot of things off the ground in recent years. It's something that I'd love to do, especially with the shootout version of the sim. Just a matter of finding the personnel.

I'm currently in 2 leagues and I have spoken to other GMs who want a fresh start to go along with the long standing leagues we are currently involved in.

I can respect that. I think that having 16 or 18 teams is probably the minimum that would be feasible for starting a league again...that's the baseline we had the last time I ran one. I think going bigger than that sets you up for failure because the GM pool is so shallow at this point.
I've also always stuck with retro leagues since the current league situation can always end up running ahead of the draft classes. I admittedly have always been partial to the 80s and early 90s but that's just me.
If any of that sounds like a fit, feel free to reach out and we'll see what we can come up with. I can't make any guarantees but it's at least worth talking about.

Like I said, can do 3 for sure (which includes me) up to 7 potentially.

The problem with three to seven GMs is that it still leaves you well short of the minimum threshold to make a league remotely viable. The last league I ran started with 18 teams and ended with 16 because it simply made for easier numbers. Seeing how thin the GM pool is now, especially when you see the same guys over and over in practically every league in existence, it's going to be an uphill climb trying to find enough guys to finish filling it out.
In addition, at least for me, I'm not a fan of arbitrarily having a time period put out there as to the starting point of a league. I prefer the 80s and 90s as opposed to the offensively challenged era with all the extra teams. Not to mention that the majority of the roster files that existed originally are gone. I still have my old files but seeing that I prefer old school, none of them are from the time frame you're talking about.

With that said, I'm not adverse to getting something going if there's a committed group of at least 16 guys, but my wheelhouse is the 80s and 90s. It seems almost everyone has started their leagues in the early 00s just to get to Crosby and company.

But like I said, I can get a handful even likely if we do 90's. Is there a way you can get a handful and then we can always post a thread here and I'm sure can get the 16 that would be solid ground to start up a league.

I would be very interested in getting in on the ground floor of a new league. Have been in FHL leagues for many, many years. The 80's and 90's would be great for me as I was in my 30's and 40's then. Please keep me in the loop... My email is: diamondog32@yahoo.com THANKS

Right now, after discussing it with some people that have been around in leagues for a while and that have taken part in things I've done in the past, we're leaning toward starting in 85/86 with a twist. Since I've never used it (and I don't know if there are many leagues that have), the plan was to implement the shootout because, well, ties are boring. The era is loaded with star power with the end of the Islanders' dynasty, the midst of the Oilers, along with Super Mario, Patrick Roy and other names that were dominant in the NHL landscape for years to come.
The current plan would be to have 16 teams and the remaining five that weren't selected would have their players either put in a dispersal draft or just dumped in the unassigned list.
I understand that the timeframe might not work for some people, but in order for a league to be viable, the commissioner has to be interested since, let's face it, running a league can be a grind at times. I've done the 90s before, even with a fantasy draft...and nothing has grabbed as strong as the 80s. Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's something else, but it's what works.
The goal will be filling 16 spots and going from there. I'll have to get cracking on putting a site together once I've determined there is enough interest to make it viable.

Well, I'd need names and emails for your guys in order to have them on file. So far, outside of the four mentioned in this thread, I've located five others and have feelers out to several other individuals that I have been in leagues with previously.

I'm now up to 11 individuals that I've reached out to...so spots are going quickly. I've also registered a domain and will work on getting the site together in the next couple of days with any luck.
