So I've got a bit of a technical question. I have a fairly large Excel document running a significantly more advanced financial system than FHLSim offers, and I'm working towards automating it. In order to do so, I need to be able to update a database with new data from both the schedule and the individual game pages as new games are simmed. Right now, the new data must be entered manually into the Excel workbook with each sim day. So does anyone know how can I get a database to automatically update with data from the schedule and game pages as new sim outputs are uploaded?
As I understand it, I likely need to use SQL or PHP to make this work, and I'm not particularly well-versed in either, so any help I can get in figuring this out would be appreciated.

Guess it depends what you need exactly.
I use an excel sheet to make a day-by-day salary cap calculation to at least somewhat mimic the NHL system to allow for saving up cap space during the season and load up on deadline day. All I have to do for this is copying the finance page into the sheet and then have one copy paste. Its rather simplistic but works without SQL. If you want to go by games played etc I guess you have start parsing the html files which could be quite some work to set up.

My system completely bypasses the sim's systems for finances and attendance. It's based on a power rankings system to determine attendance figures, which is itself a weighted function of goals for and against in last 82 games and last 10 games, as well as W-L-T record L82 and L10. It also factors in PP and PK efficiency, shot percentage, and team save percentage. The L82 weighting is intended to temper the L10, so that a bottom team on a hot streak is treated differently from a stronger team on a similar streak, while a strong team in a cold streak doesn't take as bad a hit to attendance as a poor team. There are other factors as well, but they're not based on variables that would update with each sim barring trades and other player transactions.
I do want to do what you're doing though, with the NHL-style cumulative cap space.

That sounds interesting, if you could make that work it could be manipulated to do a lot of other cool stuff with it too.
If you want I can send you the excel sheet for cumulative cap, probably needs a few tweaks to adjust to your league but its fairly simple.

Sounds like a lot of work and a PITA... lol It was. Took me a few years. It's close to 30k cells across 2 workbooks based on a 30-team league. I should be able to cut that down significantly if I can convert the workbooks to an online database, though. However, I would need to figure out how to automatically update a database with new FHL outputs to do that effectively.

I just might take you up on that offer, thanks! I'll get back to you on it.
